Description
Voyager 1 was launched on September 5, 1977, and Voyager 2 was launched on August 20, 1977. Both began a historic journey with unique ‘time capsules’ on board intended to communicate a story of our world to extraterrestrials. They are the only probes to ever explore interstellar space – the galactic ocean that our sun and its planets travel through. The Voyager message is carried by a phonograph record 12-inch gold-plated copper disk containing sounds and images selected to portray Earth’s diversity of life and culture. Once the disk was decoded by an alien mystic named Watar Muddy, one song resonated with him, titled Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground by Blind Willie Johnson.
