Gillian’s Writing Journey
One of Gillian’s mantras on her journey through life has been to ‘keep going’. If she hadn’t, maybe she would never have written this book. In fact, she wonders if she’d always been listening to the whispers of her soul in preparation for what was to come…
A Family Affair
For as long as she can remember, spiritual matters were discussed openly in Gillian’s family. She recalls how she and her sister would listen to stories about their nan’s spiritual and psychic experiences when they visited her. She remembers poring over her nan’s crystals – pinks and purples, blues and greens, and sitting on the floor by her bookcase, reading from her collection of spiritual books. Her own mum was also known in the family for her psychic abilities.
Gillian says, “For me, it led to an openness to being a spiritual seeker, one that was to shape my life in the most unexpected way.”
Working With Words
When she was 22, Gillian woke one morning, sat bolt upright and said out loud to herself, ‘I have to work with words.’ And that’s what she did for the next 40+ years. She spent most of her career as a copywriter (and over 20 years as a copywriting trainer), including working with multi-national brands and on award-winning work. She felt blessed to have had the opportunity to use her love of words. You may not be surprised to hear that she also wrote creatively in her spare time, and slowly, that crystallised into writing novels.
Keeping Going!
Alongside this, she was still exploring different aspects of spirituality and soul work, from spiritual philosophy and thinking, to different types of healing and energy therapies, and learning to listen to her very strong intuition.
The more knowledge Gillian gained, the more she also wanted to use words to help people and to share tips and tools about living life. She journalled about personal development and wrote a ‘night school’ course on it, started a spiritual novel, and created a ‘spiritual toolkit in a box’, but there was nothing she got very far with. Yet she took the learning from each one and kept going. As the Beamers would probably say, she never stopped believing in the possibilities.

The Unexpected Turn In The Road
Fast forward to 2018. By now, Gillian was in her 50s, married with a daughter. She was still writing, personally and professionally, and she’d recently joined a spiritual development circle that she attended regularly.
Very sadly, in the September, just before their daughter was due to start uni, her husband had a life-changing stroke. He was in hospital for nearly five months. While they were very grateful when he finally returned home, Gillian suddenly had the far-reaching responsibilities of being a carer and looking after his health while also working and keeping their home and lives running.
The sadness and stress built up until, eventually, around Christmas 2021, it all felt overwhelming. One winter’s evening, she sat down at the desk in the small spare bedroom and reached for her journal, desperately seeking the solace she needed.
As she wrote about her worries, she started getting answers. At first, she didn’t know where from, but she didn’t care because these scribbled conversations slowly helped her find hope again. She came to the opinion she was talking to another part of her. She intuitively chose to call it her higher self.
A Book Written In The Stars
After a few months, she could tell the energy of the communication was changing. She’s not even sure how she knew – she describes it like talking to a new person when it just feels different. This was the start of written ‘conversations’ in her journal with the non-physical Beamers – who describe themselves as a ‘collective’. They said there was important work to do – which turned out to be this book.
Through encounters with enigmatic beings known as ‘the Beamers,’ Gillian explores themes of identity, purpose, love, power, and beauty. Each chapter delves into introspection and dialogue, offering insights and wisdom that guide Gillian – and readers, towards greater authenticity, compassion, and resilience. As Gillian navigates the challenges of life, she learns to embraceher true self, live from a place of love, and find beauty and meaning in every moment.
Ultimately, ‘The Awakening’ is a heartfelt exploration of the human experience and a reminder of the power of self-belief and inner transformation.

Why were they ‘talking’ to her? Had they inadvertently got the wrong person?
Here’s what the Beamers told her: “You write. You ponder. You talk (to yourself). You ponder some more. You write rather well. We like your energy. So, all good. You had a big shock. Your Earth energy cracked wide open. That was enough to let in the truth. And then you shone your light on it. You say, you had no choice. We hear you. We say, you’re welcome.”
Slowly, she came to understand why it was so important to them to share their messages through her, and why this book had to be.
The Beamers want to help us move towards a world where truth, love and wisdom guide us, a world where we’re inspired by hope and possibility, so that, ultimately, we can work together now to raise the vibration on Earth.
“This is our greatest wish. That our dreams for a better planet come true, for the whole cosmos.”

Different Strokes – The Charity Gillian Is Supporting
Here’s what Gillian said about the charity, ‘Different Strokes,’ “As you’ve read, this book was born out of my overwhelm after my husband’s life-changing stroke. It happened when he was in his early 50s. As the weeks and months passed by, there was so much our daughter and I had to find out, so much we had to learn and get to grips with to look after him as well as we could. To be honest, it was quite daunting, and I often felt like ‘a rabbit in the headlights’ as I faced one new challenge after another. Different Strokes was one of the charities we turned to – and we’re very grateful for its services. Different Strokes ‘help younger stroke survivors and their families in the UK to reclaim their lives through active peer support.’ In particular, we joined their Facebook group and, as he’s continued his rehab, my husband has joined some of their virtual meetings.”
Gillian has pledged to donate a portion of the royalties from ‘The Awakening’ to support the Different Strokes charity.
